IRAQ 2015/16

‘Even the handshake (our common form of greeting) is thought to have been appropriated by Roman legionaries who spent time with the Yazidis of Northern Iraq. With examples such as these the cultural gap encouraged by the world press is quickly narrowed and instead an understanding and unity identified. My paintings are an attempt to condense these ideas within a contemporary ‘everyday’ format; by incorporating photography I can place real people I have seen on the streets of Iraq alongside Londoners waiting for the overground; a snapshot of routine. In essence the one is not really that different from the other.’
